Harry's Wine & Supper Club Course - Wine Tasting with Food


Learn how to spot different varieties of wine This is a five-week course, one evening per week.

It is a very sociable course for those who would like to learn more about specific wine regions and the foods which best accompany those wines.

Taste between 6 - 8 wines each week, together with a substantial supper - designed to help students discover the secrets of harmonising wines and food.

All dietary requirements are catered for.

A chance to eat food and drink wines from various regions around the world, in order to develop your taste buds and also see how food matches with wine.  This is designed to help students discover the secrets of harmonising wines and foods.   It’s a great chance to meet like-minded people and taste some lovely culinary delights from Harry’s kitchen.  Very friendly and informal and an opportunity for you to give you opinions on some unusual wines – and you’ll taste at least 6 wines each week.

The course is led by Harry who has taught at SFX College for a number of hears and educated many hundreds of palates to the wonders of food and wine.

On completion of the course you should be able to:

  • evaluate wine in relation to colour, bouquet and taste
  • choose wines according to your personal taste and budget
  • harmonise wines and foods
  • recognise grape varieties from around the world
  • apply critical awareness of wines outside the class, particularly in restaurants and supermarkets
  • discover the art of planning a meal with a suitable wine.

New Academic Year 2011-12

There are two sessions per term, the same content repeated, so as long as you tell us in advance, if you miss one week, you can always catch it next time round.   The regions will change in the Spring and Summer terms, taking into account seasonal availability.

Autumn Term

Week 1: Italian food and wine
Week 2: French food and wine
Week 3: Spicy food and wines to accompany (curry heaven!)
Week 4: Far Eastern food and wines to accompany (Thai, China, Japan)
Week 5: Mediterranean delights (North Africa, Middle East, Eastern Med)


Session 1:  22 September - 20 October
Session 2: 3 November - 4 December


Spring Term

Session 1:  19 January 2012 – 23 February 2012 (16 Feb half term)
Session 2: 1 March – 29 March  


Summer Term

The fee includes tuition, information pack, glasses, fact sheets on wines to be tasted, and certificate. Each session will include between 30 - 35 different wines to be tasted, together with a substantial supper to be served each evening. This is to discover the secrets of harmonising wines and food. All dietary requirements are catered for.
