Kenneth Harry Putt - Managing Director

Kenneth Harry Putt

Kenneth Harry began his career with British Rail Catering, during which time he studied at Westminster Catering College, and was appointed as the youngest BR restaurant car conductor. His interests in wine were furthered by trips abroad to study vineyards and wine production, and he accordingly became a founder member of the Guild of Sommeliers.

At the age of 27 he joined Grants of St. James's and quickly rose to the post of top Regional Sales Manager. During this period he gave many lectures on wine and food at Universities and Colleges and ran seminars and training courses for salesmen, licensees, restaurateurs and hoteliers. In the late 60s he opened his own a la carte restaurant and night-club and established a wholesale wine company and outside catering division.

He is much in demand as a lecturer both here and abroad, especially in the USA where he has developed specialized Business Management Courses designed for Universities and Technical Colleges. He also runs corporate wine events for a variety of clients.

He writes regular wine columns for in-house company magazines, specialised publications and for the general press. He is FHM Magazine's 'Bon Viveur Dad' and provides expert guidance for city businesses and institutions.

He founded the Wine & Food Academy with the specific aim of demonstrating the pleasures of harmonising wines and food - a subject close to his heart. He now has over 150 adult students, and in addition he organises regular visits to wine growing regions in Europe. He has been featured on BBC2, Sky Digital "Good Food Live" and Channel 4 "Come Dine with Me".

He was also the sole wine consultant for the first ever London Wine Festival held at Olympia in July 2003.
